Chardonnay EQ

WINE 46

BIODYNAMIC CHARDONNAY

The grapes for EQ Chardonnay grow in the Rossario Valley on clay mixed with eroded granite sand. The vines are deliberately planted in fields with varying sun exposure to compose both fully ripe tropical fruity and more intense, acidic grapes to compose the wine. Only the natural yeast that sits on the grapes is used, which is pressed gently throughout the bunches, and the wine is fermented in French oak. The wine stores in wood for 11 months, where the yeast residues are stirred regularly for 6 months to maximize the taste and density of the wine.

BIODYNAMISK CHARDONNAY

ABOUT THE WINERY

MATETIC

Matetic is a pioneer in Chile in the new San Antonio super area, very near the Pacific, west of Santiago. The house was founded in 1999 by Jorge Matetic, the 4th generation of a Croatian immigrant family. In the state-of-the-art wine cellar from 2004, the wine is moved only by gravity, and there are three barrel basements underground for storage in French oak barrels. Everything is organized from the start using ecological and biodynamic methods. The winery is selected as "Winery of the Year" in Wines & Spirits at least 5 times.

Vingården er valgt som ”Winery of the Year” i Wines & Spirits mindst 5 gange.

General grape descriptions

Chardonnay

Wine drinkers find it flatteringly easy to enjoy, with its broad, exuberant charms, relatively high alcohol and low acidity, and lack of powerful scent. Vine growers find it easy to grow productively and profitably (it can yield well, ripen usefully early, although buds rather too early for frost-free comfort in cool climates). And winemakers revel in the range of different winemaking techniques to which Chardonnay readily submits: not just a wide range of dry white wines with more weight than most, but delicate sparkling wines and even a few extremely successful sweet white wines made with the benefit of 'noble rot'.
