Bodegas J. Bouchon

Carménère Reserva

SOFT & ELEGANT

It is well over 100 kilometers from the Chilean capital of Santiago to Santa Rosa, where Bodegas J. Bouchon has his fields of Carmenere grapes. They make up all the fruit that this wine is made from, and the grapes are harvested from vines that have been in the fields for 25 years. The first part of the processing of the grapes is done in temperature controlled steel tanks, but then the wine is rounded off nicely with four months storage on a mixture of steel tanks and French oak. It gives a flavor that is soft and elegant but also challenges with its fresh acidity and delicious notes of red berries, herbs, ripe plums and dark chocolate.

ABOUT THE WINERY

BODEGAS J. BOUCHON

The wines of J. Bouchon in Chile have always had a French touch. The house was founded in the late 1800s when the young Emile Bouchon traveled from Bordeaux to the Maule Valley to begin the wine adventure continued today by the 4th generation of the Bouchon family. And since 1999, the former owner of Chateau Pavie in St. Emilion Patrick Valette acted as consultant for the house and thus not only maintained but also emphasized the French touch in the wines.

General grape descriptions

Carménère

Historic Bordeaux variety found widely today in Chile where it was long mistaken for Merlot. It is now forging its own more structured identity in Chile and is increasingly acknowledged in Bordeaux. China's Cabernet Gernischt has been shown to be Carmenère.
