In this vintage Albert has made this as a 100% Sumoll, with the perfect climate in 2016 he felt it this rare, ancient, local variety did not need the support of Tempranillo. This is therefore perhaps even more authentic than ever. Either way it is a startlingly good ‘local’ red from Albert’s very old vineyards on the border of Penedes and Tarragona. This is a gorgeously vibrant, red fruit, herb, and spice infused red, crunchy, crackling and alive with energy and zip. Fans of both Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir will find lots to love in Sumoll! This is an absolute joy that will leave you reaching for the next glass.

I denne årgang har Albert lavet vinen som en 100% Sumoll. Med det perfekte klima i 2016 følte han, at denne sjældne, gamle, lokale sort ikke havde brug for støtte fra Tempranillo. Dette er derfor måske endnu mere autentisk end nogensinde. Uanset hvad er det en overraskende god 'lokal' rød fra Alberts meget gamle vinmarker på grænsen til Penedes og Tarragona. Dette er en smuk vin med rød frugt, urter og krydderi, sprød og levende. Fans af både Nebbiolo og Pinot Noir vil elske Sumoll!

ABOUT THE WINERY


AUTOCTON CELLER


The young Albert Jané grows this wine on the special Licorella earthy dry rock. The yield is extremely small - barely over 20 hl/ha and the vines extremely old - a good deal over 100 years. The wines have gained a great reputation in Spain and are also on the way in other countries. The methods are by nature organic. All work is done by hand both before and after the harvest. The grapes are pressed very gently and get a long fermentation before the wine is gravitated down to malolactic fermentation and storage in barrels of French oak.


Den unge Albert Jané gror denne vin på den særlige Licorella jordmager tør klippe. Udbyttet er ekstremt lille -næppe over 20 hl/ha, vinstokkene ekstremt gamle -en god del over 100 år. Vinene har fået et meget stort ry i Spanien og er også på vej i andre lande. Metoderne er af naturen økologiske (om en uden certifikat). Alt arbejde foregår ved håndkraft såvel før som efter vinhøsten. Druerne presses meget blidt og får en lang gæring, før vinen ved tyngdekraft føres ned til malolaktisk gæring og lagring i fade af fransk eg.

Sumoll


Sumoll is a virtually extinct black variety that is native to Catalonia, Spain. The grape was once widely grown throughout Catalonia but vines were pulled up in favor of less-temperamental varieties. Today, only 250 acres (100ha) of Sumoll remain, although there have been some small-scale initiatives to promote the variety and its vinification.

Sumoll is used in the production of red and rosé wines but, due to its small-scale production, it is found predominantly in blends. A few varietal examples exist, however: Heretat Mont-Rubi released the first single-variety Sumoll, and a handful of others are now available. Wines made from the variety have a distinctive cherry flavor and a pronounced mineral characteristic. They can sometimes lack acidity, and are best drunk young.
