Break Away

FRESS & DRY

Break Away has a nice fresh acid and a little dryness. It is ripe and is a super elegant, soft and fruity Zinfandel! There is a slight pleasant sweetness in the scent that suits the wine really well. One should not expect a black sweet-bomb from a large California cooperative, but an elegant, fruity, ripe Zinfandel in beautiful balance, of which only 1000 boxes have been produced.

ABOUT THE WINERY

DI ARIE VINEYARDS

Di Arie is two hours by car east of San Francisco in the Shenandoah Valley area. Here Chaim Gur-Arieh (winemaker and owner) rides around and enjoys his vines. He holds a PhD in food science and is a co-inventor of the good old breakfast product 'Cap'n Crunch'. In addition, he has invented the yogurt cup, which is used every day around the world when we buy our cultura or the kids get a Petit Danone. In other words; He has earned his entire fortune in the food business, and since selling his food businesses in 1998, he has concentrated only on living his lifelong dream of making wine. Chaim always tries to make elegant wines with high finesse. He is not into alcoholic jam bombs, as that is simply not his style. Therefore, he also "breaks" a bit away from the normal Zinfandel style one can sometimes encounter in Napa or elsewhere in California.

Di Arie ligger to timer i bil øst for San Fransisco i området Shenandoah Valley.

General grape descriptions

Zinfandel

A fruit-forward-yet-bold red that’s loved for its red fruit flavors and smoky exotic spice notes. Originally from Croatia and related to top Croatian grape, Plavic Mali.

By the middle of the 19th century a vine variously called Zinfandel and Zinfandal had established itself in northern California and was prized for its productivity. A visiting French winemaker even pronounced that its wine was ‘like a good French claret’. It thrived in the warm climate, was beloved by the thousands who shipped grapes east from California to make wine at home during Prohibition, and was the most planted dark-skinned grape variety of the West Coast until usurped by the more glamorous and, significantly, more obviously French, Cabernet Sauvignon in the second half of the 20th century.
