Guardian Peak

Sauvignon Blanc

FRESH & LIGHT

This South African Sauvignon Blanc belongs in the fresh and light style. In the 2018 vintage, it is full of ripe, green fruits, green melons, gooseberries, kiwi and a rounding with notes of lychee. It gives an elegant and very clean style, which also has a touch of apples in the taste, and the fresh whole with an elegant acid balance gives a balanced Sauvignon Blanc experience.

FRISK & LET

ABOUT THE WINERY

GUARDIAN PEAK

For over 320 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch.  Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but since 1977 the family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot.

Many accolades have been bestowed upon the estate and some of the more memorable were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner and hosting the Queen of Denmark for a lunch at the Manor House. Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World and repeated this achievement for four consecutive years.

General grape descriptions

Sauvignon Blanc

Often called simply Sauvignon, extremely popular variety making crisp, dry, aromatic and extremely distinctive wines all over the world. The smell is sharp and piercing and reminds different tasters variously of gooseberries, nettles, crushed blackcurrant leaves, and occasionally cat’s pee. With age, aromas reminiscent of canned asparagus can develop.

Most Sauvignon Blanc is fermented at relatively low temperatures in stainless steel with the intention of preserving every bit of youthful fruit. The wines are in general designed to be drunk as young as possible, although some of the fruit from particularly low-yielding vineyards can be concentrated to withstand oak ageing and may need a year or so in bottle before showing their best.
