Marc Delienne

Beaujolais Villages

Le Haut Du Bois de Leynes

ROUND & ELEGANT

A soft scent of ripe cherries and blackcurrant plus a sizzling fruit acid like the scent of lemon rubbed between the fingers. Clear, sweet, seductive fruit flavor in a slightly cooler style than the scent; hints of gooseberry and Spanish chervil/fresh anise in the aftertaste. Tastes of summer at all seasons. The grapes come from a field in about 400m altitude west of the city of Leynes, about 10 km. north of Fleurie. Most older vines, densely planted, 8000 vines/ha. on varying soils of clay/limestone and granite in varying degrees of erosion. The wine is aged 10 months in large barrels without clarification or filtration.

RUND & ELEGANT

ABOUT THE WINERY

MARC DELIENNE

Marc Delienne comes from the financial world, where he has made enough money to realize an old dream of making the wine he has always loved. After traveling in wine districts in southern France for 30 years, he had a good network to start. He humbly began as a field worker at Domaine de Trevallon in Provence, where he eventually became involved in the vinification. Then a quick, but intense, continuing education at Domaine de Fa in Beaujolais. Marc Delienne then bought Chateua de l'Abbey with 4.9 ha. fields. All vines were planted between 40 and 80 years ago, producing intense and deep wines.

General grape descriptions

Gamay

A fruity, floral and sometimes earthy light-bodied red that is the main variety planted in Beaujolais. Outside of France, Gamay has a tiny but devoted following.
