Vina Nora

Nora de Neve

DEEP & POWERFULL

An intense white wine with fine aroma of melon, pear and light flowers like chamomile and with fine oak notes. Full, long and precise with mineral purity. This is the house's top wine made from grapes from the best field.
The grapes come from an extremely stony and nutrient-poor parcel close to the property where yields are very low and the stones give off the heat of the sun at night. Most must ferment in lightly toasted, 225 to 600 l, oak barrels of Allier oak of and the wine is aged here for 6 months.
A delicate balance between fruit intensity, flavor from the oak barrels and preservation of the elegant basic character and acidity of the Albarino grape.

DYB & KRAFTIG

ABOUT THE WINERY

VINA NORA

Vina Nora is one of the slightly larger producers with 16 ha. own fields in terraces facing the river Minho. The property is located in the sub-area "Candado do Tea", which is the part of Rias Baixas, which is farthest from the Atlantic and has significantly less rainfall than the most coastal parts. As the entire area is lush, green and quite humid, the vines are bound pergola-like as a "roof" on high poles to ensure maximum sun and less moisture.
The grapes are hand harvested and the wine makes long contact with the residue from the fermentation to provide more depth and shades but still maintain the lively, acid-peeling nature of the grapes in all the wines.

General grape descriptions

Albariño

Albariño is a white wine grape varietal grown in Galicia (north-west Spain) and in Monção (north-west Portugal), where it is used to make varietal white wines. Albariño is actually the Galician name for the grape, with 'Albarin Blanco' an occasional synonym. In Portugal it is known as 'Alvarinho'.
The Albariño grape is the backbone of wine production in the Rias Baixas D.O. region, especially in the town of Cambados, representing around 90% of its vine plantings, around 2000 hectares. History suggests that Burgundian monks from the Abbey of Cluny who came to Galicia at the invitation of Alfonso VII of Asturias in the 12th & 13th centuries brought the Albariño grape to Spain from France.
