ABOUT THE WINERY

WEINGUT VON HOVEL

Von Hövel has been in the village of Oberemmel 200 m above the Wiltingen by the river since the 13th century. The property was originally a monk's regiment belonging to the monastery in Trier, but was privatized at the behest of Emperor Napoleon in 1806 and sold to Emmerich Grach; great-great-grandfather to Max Von Kunow, who runs the winery today. The mansion has been burnt and rebuilt a few times, but the basements are the same as it was 800 years ago. From Max's grandparents' time in the 1950s, the winery has been named Von Hövel, who came into the family when a forester married a daughter of the Grach family.

General grape descriptions

Riesling

Riesling is grape from the Alsace region (France), Germany and Austria but Germany is the largest producer in the word of Riesling wines,  which goes from the dry wines to sweet. This grape is cultivated in warm or cold climates and produces high-quality wines witch evolve well over the years. They are very aromatic wines and with pronounced acidity. Riseling wines with sweet characteristics goes well with spicy food as Indian and Thai cuisine. The dried Riesling  goes well with slightly fat meats like the duck. Most present aromas: lima, green apple, beeswax, jasmine and gasoline.
