TAPS Winebar

Weingut Carl Loewen

Maximiner Herrenberg 1896

WINE 57

COMPLEX & DEEP

This wine is made from ungrafted vines planted in 1896.

The nose is very refined in its blend of pear, a touch of clementine, lovely floral tones, slate, orange zest and a gently smoky topnote.

It shows intensity and even a touch of power on the impeccably balanced palate, leading to a very long and mineral-infused finish.

KOMPLEKS & DYB

ABOUT THE WINERY

WEINGUT CARL LOEWEN

The Loewen family can trace their history back to 1803, when the Maximiner monastery was acquired after Napoleon's defeat. We are in the classic part of the Mosel also called Mittelmosel, with very steep vineyards, which naturally makes it very resource-intensive to make wine. Since 2010, the Loewen family has worked diligently to show what the Riesling grape can deliver from very old vines. They own a large and important part of the field Maximiner Herrenberg with original ungrafted vines from 1896. It is the largest Riesling field in the world with such old vines. Their work has since been rewarded with various awards, among others. best German producer of the year and best wine collection of the year.

General grape descriptions

Riesling

Riesling is grape from the Alsace region (France), Germany and Austria but Germany is the largest producer in the word of Riesling wines,  which goes from the dry wines to sweet. This grape is cultivated in warm or cold climates and produces high-quality wines witch evolve well over the years. They are very aromatic wines and with pronounced acidity. Riseling wines with sweet characteristics goes well with spicy food as Indian and Thai cuisine. The dried Riesling  goes well with slightly fat meats like the duck. Most present aromas: lima, green apple, beeswax, jasmine and gasoline.
