Bouchard Pére & Fils

Puligny-Montrachet

WINE 74

FRESH & RICH

Located between Meursault and Chassagne with soil perfect for Chardonnay, the small village of Puligny-Montrachet must be the natural center of gravity for Côte-d'Or white wines, having given its name to the mighty white wines, Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. Puligny-Montrachet is a beautiful union of power and elegance. Flowers and fruit in the scent and a pleasant soft and deep taste.Clear, clean fruit style with persistent intensity, a touch of bread crust and notes of melon balancing minerality and acidity.

FRISK & FYLDIG

ABOUT THE WINERY

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest producers in Burgundy and is the largest vineyard owner in the Cote d'Or. The house owns, among other things 12 acres of Grand Cru, as well as 74 acres of Premier Cru fields. In 1995, Joseph Henriot bought himself into Bouchard Père & Fils, and he invested a lot of money in building a new winery that was completed in 2005. In the 3-story underground building, gravity takes the wine through the various processes of vinification. The modern technology combined with respect for traditions and the old know-how ensure that the many wines of the domain can each express the diverse terroir found in Burgundy. In 2015, Bouchard Père & Fils was certified sustainable in areas that focus on eco-friendly approaches to winemaking.

General grape descriptions

Chardonnay

Wine drinkers find it flatteringly easy to enjoy, with its broad, exuberant charms, relatively high alcohol and low acidity, and lack of powerful scent. Vine growers find it easy to grow productively and profitably (it can yield well, ripen usefully early, although buds rather too early for frost-free comfort in cool climates). And winemakers revel in the range of different winemaking techniques to which Chardonnay readily submits: not just a wide range of dry white wines with more weight than most, but delicate sparkling wines and even a few extremely successful sweet white wines made with the benefit of 'noble rot'.
